Dancing Dogs Part 1 ... the Name

Many of you with hairless dogs already know this but for those who don't, I stole the 'Dancing Dogs' name.  Yep, and without regret but now that I have it, I'm holding on tight with both hands!

The Dancing Dogs are also sometimes known as the Colima Dogs.  Based on one of many pieces of beautiful pottery dating back over 3000 years that were found in the tombs of the ancient civilizations (Toltec, Mayan, Aztec and others) surrounding Colima Mexico.  Similar pottery has been found in many areas of Mexico, Peru, and Central/South America.  If you do a Google search on 'Colima Dogs' you will find additional information plus images of many of these beautiful pieces including the Dancing Dogs.

I first learned of the Dancing Dogs or larger hairless dogs from an obsolete web page.  I found the page while researching Chinese Cresteds and discovered the wonderful world of Xoloitzcuintle and Peruvian Inca Orchid (PIO, Viringo, Perro sin Pelo Del Peru).  A beautiful big boy named 'Tigger' captured my heart and I had to learn more!  I now share my home and life with several beautiful hairless breeds:  Chinese Crested, Viringo, and Xoloitzcuintle.
I am definitely hooked - no turning back now!

While the Dancing Dogs are likely based on the Xoloitzcuintle of Mexico, I think it is safe to say that the Viringos of Peru are kissing cousins from the same ancient lines.

Do they really dance?  Yes, they do.
The following photo is from a video of my Viringos, Raymi (left) and Tiera during one of their dances.

Could be worse! :)

Found out today that I will be furloughed up to 7 days through the end of FY13 (Sept 30); one day a pay period for 7 pay periods.  BUT it really could have been worse as they had originally told us it could be up to 15 days or 2 days per pay period.

I'm not happy at the aspect of losing pay but another day 'off' may help my stress levels ... or maybe not!?!  To be determined ...

I am, however, thankful to have a job as I know these times are tough for many.  Chins up!  :)

Let's get started!

Welcome to my blog!

I thought I would give this blog thing a try.  Don't know what direction I plan on going with this but will probably end up being all over the map.  Anyone who knows me will know that my 'kids' will probably take over this aspect of my life since they are such a huge part of everything else I do but I'm hoping to also focus on my photography, cooking/healthier eating, and other interests.

I'm not a great writer, having started journals but not finished them.  For starters, my goal will be to post something new once a week.  hmmm ... that seems like a lot so we'll just have to see how that works out.
